“You eat it and you get anaphylactic shock”: Earthquake on vegan foods | Banned from today without exceptions

These foods have become almost a boomerang for those who consume them .
Vegan foods are foods that do not contain any ingredients of animal origin. This means that, in addition to excluding meat and fish, they also do not contain milk, eggs, honey or any animal derivatives. They are mainly based on fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, seeds, nuts and processed plant products, such as tofu or soy milk. Vegan diets arise from ethical, environmental or health reasons.
“ Normal foods” generally refer to those found in an omnivorous diet, which includes both plant and animal products. Milk, cheese, meat, eggs, and fish are part of most people’s daily diet. These foods provide complete proteins and some nutrients that are difficult to obtain from plant sources alone, such as vitamin B12 or heme iron.
The most obvious difference is the source of the ingredients. Vegan foods tend to be lower in calories and saturated fat, but may require more careful planning to ensure a complete intake of all essential nutrients. Omnivorous foods, on the other hand, offer a wider nutritional variety, but may carry a higher cardiovascular risk if they are high in animal fats.
There are also cultural and practical differences. Omnivorous foods are more popular and often easier to find, while vegan foods are becoming more common in restaurants and supermarkets. The choice between the two is not just about food, but often reflects a broader lifestyle.
Error on the label of this vegan foodThe Ministry of Health has published a new food recall concerning a product sold with a misleading label. It is the Natural Organic Vegan Tofu branded Veggie – Despar, distributed in 250 gram packages. Inside the packages of lot 238, with expiration date 06/08/2025, seitan, a food based on wheat gluten, was found, despite the wording indicating “tofu”. The product was made by Biolab Srl and distributed by Despar Italia.
This labeling error represents a real risk for consumers allergic to wheat, gluten or mustard, allergens that are not correctly indicated. The discrepancy can cause serious consequences, such as swelling, hives, difficulty breathing or even anaphylactic shock in the most sensitive subjects. The undeclared presence of allergens violates food safety regulations, making the recall immediate and necessary.

The Ministry recommends that consumers not consume the product if they have the affected package. It is possible to return it to the point of sale for a refund. Even those who do not have allergies should know that they are consuming seitan and not tofu, as erroneously indicated.
This is therefore not only a technical error, but also misleading information that compromises transparency towards customers.
